New Year - Same Old Me

First of all, I would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year. It seems like the festive period has been a mixed bag for people. Whilst enjoying time with our chosen people we also reflect on the people who are no longer with us. The time seems to go so quickly when we should ideally be moving slowly and taking time to nurture ourselves.

If you have had time to slow down and take care of your needs to move back into the working week can seem that much harder. With its manmade demands and the push to get things done, the emails that seem to be out of date already, the meetings for things you forgot even existed.

My specialty at this time of year is telling myself that I wrote a decent to-do list for January me, only to find it is a list of random words that I cannot bring myself to even look at because – eugh – too much.

So how can we look after ourselves when the reality of work kicks back in?

This morning I made the most of my morning walk, watching the sun rise across the snow-covered park and spotting a fox in the distance. I will try to move through my day at the same pace, not doing three tasks at once and wondering why I feel so frantic. I will then eat warm nourishing foods to try and maintain a decent body temperature, which isn’t always easy when you are desk bound (but free will means you can get up and move about as much as you want to).

I am starting my first workshop this evening to look at “Embodied Stress Management”, this will be a great reminder for me how helpful somatic tools are when you can feel the stress seeping in from every angle. Tonight we will be looking at how our nervous system works, as well as starting to look at the tools available to us in more detail. The main tool I am looking forward to is co-regulation, as working with a group to achieve a similar goal is so enriching.

This will be the first of many offerings for 2026. I am so excited to be sharing my somatic learning throughout the year through my yoga classes, workshops and through one-to-one coaching. My diary for coaching is now open, so if this is something that you have been considering drop me a line and we can arrange a chat about what it is you are looking to achieve. I will share details of upcoming workshops as soon as I confirm the dates.

Until next time, I encourage you to look at what you could do today to meet your needs – it doesn’t have to be something huge, maybe just a walk in nature or another hot cup of tea.
